SELECTION OF LINE
The Chairman reported .at great length with regard to an interview which he and some members of the Committee had had with Mr. De Lautour, M.H.lt. for Mount Ida. That gentleman had strongly supported the line via Duntroon as the one most likely to benefit the people of the interior, and receive the support of Parliament.
Some discussion then took place as to which of the lines— via Duntroon or cia Teaneraki —should bo recommended. The whole of the members took part in the discussion, but it was eveutually unanimously resolved, on the motion of Mr. Hislop, seconded by Mr. Sumptkr, " That the advantages to be presented by the lines via Duntroon and Teaneraki suggested by the Engineers' report arc so equally balanced that the Committee request the members, if possible, to leave the matter of route an open question to be decided by the Board hereafter ; but that, if the Government and House insist upon having the line definitely fixed, the line via Duntroon be the one recommended, more particularly as that line has received the support of the Naseby district. " The Committee then adjourned.
