The Harbour Board have adopted the report of the Harbour Improvement Committee, but have decided not to carry out any improvements till the necessary land has been vested in the Board ; arid it was resolved to order a steam-tug from England. ♦ ■ DUNEDIN. COMPLETION OF MAIN TRUNK RAILWAY. July 14. The deputation appointed to proceed to Wellington to interview the Government regarding the completion of the main trunk railway, and urge speed in the opening up of railway communication between Dunedin and the interior, have just received the following telegram from the Hon. Mr. Ormond :—" Plans for the section between Balclutha and Clinton, are now ready, and tenders will be called for within a fortnight. The time allowed to complete the contract will not exceed twelve months. The northern line is all under contract, except the Waikouaiti section, which the Government intends shall be completed within the terms specified in the other contracts on both sides of it, now in course of construction. The Government recognise the necessity of completing the section referred to, and will use every exertion to do so." The dtputation also received the following telegram from the Minister of Works ;

" Ee extension of railway communication, surveys hare been made to the order of the Government, but the Engineer's report is not yet received, with the precise informationrequired." In all probability the gentlemen appointed to form the deputation will not think it necessary to proceed to Wellington.
