|F In the cases of Costello, Wilson, and M'Gninness, it was decided to notify to them that their houses, in certain respecto, are not in conformity with the bye-laws, and must be brought into conformity therewith by the Ist August. The Clerk was empowered to register any other piemises for which applications may be received, filling in the number of boarders to be accommodated in accordance with Inspector's report. It was resolved that a copy of the Register should be sent to the Sub-Inspector of Police, and also notification hereafter of any additions thereto. LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE. The following report from this Committee was read : Your Committee recommend that a petition from the Council to the House of Representatives be prepared, setting forth the injury done to the town by the railway encroachment on Tyne and Itchen streets, and that the same be handed to the members for the district for presentation, together with a copy of the whole correspondence on the subject. They further recommend that a letter be addressed to the Government, suggesting the desirability of some local officer, as, for instance, the Resident Magistrate, being authorised to assent to the Corporation leases and transfers, instead of their haviug. A3 now, tn be referred to Wellington, for the Governor's assent. A'so, that an endeavour be made to get the Crown Grants of Municipal sections aud reserves, which, under the Abolition Act, are vested in the Governor, transferred to the Corporation. Also, that a further effort be made to obtain such amendment of the Stamp Act as will exempt receipts given for Municipal rates and rents from stamp duty. And also, that members for the district be asked to meet the Council, and to endeavour to secure the carrying out of the above suggestions. The report was agreed to after some discussion. PUBLIC WORKS COMMITTEE. The following report from this Committee was read and adopted : Railway hiding, Block XC'V.—Your Committee have the honour to report that they have inqu red into ths matter of the proposed railway siding from Hertslett's Claim across Municipal Reserve, Post Office Right-of-Way, and along Medway street—and after careful consideration recommeiid that permission be accorded, provided the land ,',■ ..-r which the line will pass where it crosses i.r ; v;ito property is vested in the Govern:u.:. r, so .is to ensure that the sidmg shall ■j.-\ -;■ v.- be ariiilable to the Corporation /.V Mi-. Miranis' Letter. —Your Committee have considered the letter from Mr. Mirams referred to them, and have to report -hat the footparh in question is in a fair state, and they do not s?ee any necessity to recommend the Council to incur any expense in the direction suggested by Mr. Mirams. lit Notice from Government. —Your Committee draw the attention of the Council to the notice received from the Public Works Department with reference to Section B, Block XC'V., of which the Corporation holds a Crown Grant, and recommend that the Government be asked, in consideration of the value of the property proposed to be taken, to Crown Grant in exchange the small piece of frontage between the Creek and the Post Oliioe Building, on the west side of Thames-street: and also to Crown the small piece of ground at the back of Post OJice Reserve, aiul between the right-of-rt-ay and the Creek, and vested in the C uracil under the Ordinance of lSb'L the grant to ba for purposes of public utility ; and also that the Government be asked to recoup the Council the sum recently expended in Reserve B in laying ou; the grouud, fencing, and planting trees thereon, as provided by section 132, which allows of a elaim for improvement made. ROAD TO BtTSH RESERVE. The following letter was read : Kakanui Road Board Office, Tyne-street, Oamaru, July 2, 1577. D. A. M'Leod, Esq , Municipal Engineer, Oamaru. Sir, —I have the honor, by the direction of the Chairman of this Board, to acknowledge receipt of yours of 30th May and Ist ultimo (with plan of proposed road continuation of Tyne-street, through Town Belt, aud Sections 52, 54, 55, and 57, Block IV., Oamaru district, to Cape Wanbrow), asking the Board to what extent they would contribute towards the expense of formation, and whether they would prefer making the road themselves or would approve of the Corporation making it. The Board have instructed me to forward you copy of resolution thereon:—" Resolved—That the sum of unity pounds (L3O) sterling be voted towards making said road; that the Municipal Council be requested to carry out the works under their own Engineer, and that no money be paid from this Board until Mr. i Oliver has certified that the works have beea completed to his satisfaction." I have, &c, Robert Garrow, Clerk to the Board. The letter was referred to the Reserves Committee, with the Engineer to report upon. PLANTING, &C. A letter from the Corporation Gardener on this subject "was referred to the Reserves Committee. - transfer of leases. The following applications for permission to transfer leases were granted : Michael M'Grath, Section 17, Block LXX., to Michael Smyder ; W. Cowling, Section 19, Block XL, to First Oamaru Bnilding Society; Charles Townsend, Actions 9 and" 99, Block XI., to S. '-übi ■ . A SIGNBOARD. I' rmission was given to Messrs. Stemton and Liegh to erect a signboard at each Mil ,>f their verandah in Thames-street, subject to the work being done under the stipjrvision of the Engineer.
