NORTHERN AGRICULTURAL AND PASTORAL ASSOCIATION.

A general meeting of the Committee of this association was held this afternoon, in the Secretary's office. Present: Messrs. Hedley (in the chair), Young, Ronayne, P. Orr, M'Lennan, Todd, Borrie, Stevenson, Duncan, Henderson, E. Menlove, ancl Meek. MINUTES AND CORRESPONDENCE. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. The outward correspondence was read and approved of. CATTLE PENS. Mr. John Lemon submitted the probable cost of cattle pens. For a concrete wall, 9in. thick, including 3ft. of foundation, lft. thick stalls, posts and rails, with roof, £249 125.; without roof, £206 ; constituted wholly of wood, with reof, stalls, &c., £142 : the same, without roof, £IOO. Mr. Menlove would suggest that the Committee should erect a grand stand this season, and put up with the present wooden stalls. He merely threw out the suggestion for consideration of the Committee. Mr. Young thought a grand stand was a great mistake, because people would keep moving about. Mr. Tood thought the whole scheme was too extravagant. He knew that people at many shows provided sheds for protection of their own cattle. He would rather see the Society do without these extensive cattle pens, rather than get into a maze of debt. Mr. Meitlove moved, and Mr. Ronayne seconded, a resolution that the Committee do not accept the plans submitted by Mr. Lemon, as too expensive.—Carried. Mr. Todd moved that the Committee erect fences, in accordance with the mover's plan, not exceeding £6O. Mi*. Henderson seconded the resolution, which was carried unanimously. JUDGES FOE. CHKISTCHUBCH SHOW. The question of nominating judges was brought forward, but nothing could be done owing to the indefinite character of the communication which had been received from the Canterbury Association. [Left sitting.]
