GOOD TEMPLAR ENTERTAINMENT.
A miscellaneous entertainment was •riven Itist night, in the Tees-street Hall, under the auspices of the Star of Hope Lodge. for the benefit of the Harrison Relief Fun.'l,. which, we are happy to say, will prove a most substantial aicl to so deserving an object. The building was crowded in every part, toward the latter end of the evening standing-room being scarcely obtainable. Mr. J. G. Finch presided at the piano, and rendered valuable assistance during the evening the instrument having been kindly loaned by Mr. Ga;neross. The programme submitted was a most varied one, embracing songs. duets, readings, and recitations, which was got through in a most creditable manner. Where all were so good it may seem invidious to particularise, but we cannot refrain from bestowing an especial word of praise to the duets, " All's Well," ljj- Mr. D. Booth and Mrs. Bas'iford ; and " The Army and Navy," by Messrs. B. Booth and Hannah. A most pleasing feature in the entertainment were recitations delivered by the Masters Weir, one of whom could not have been more than five years old. The little fellow recited his part- —and no short one either—without a stop or stumble, and with an attempt at elocutionary eii'eet which his elders might copy with advantage. So far from their being my lack of talent last night, the programme, if anything, was too crowded. With such an array of able and willing volunteers, we see no reason why Oamaru could not inaugurate the Saturday Isight Concerts which have been so successful in "other parts of the Colony. We feel convinced that they could be made, under judicious management, a profitable revenue to aid in the cause of charity, as the attendance last night proved that such entertainments can be both appreciated i
and v supported. Now that the citizens have set to work to initiate a permanent relief fund for deserving cases, we thinkvaluable pecuniary aid might be rendered ! to the Benevolent Society by the means we have mentioned. We make the Committee a present of the suggestion.
