THE WESTERN RAILWAYS ARBITRATION CASE.
In our telegrams published on Thurt day, reference was made to Mr. Proud' foot's arbitration case, in connection witi these railways. The Star of the 17th co»' tains the following : —Mr. W. N. Blstfj who was appointed arbitrator for the difr pute on the Western Railways, made award last evening, by which it appears the Provincial Government are indebted to Mr. G. Proudfoot in the sum of "L 81,569 19s. Bd. Nearly eighty sittings have been held, at which Mr. D. Reid has represented the Government, and Mr. Proudfoot has conducted his own case. The Government take over the works a> from April 14 last, and the award is pade up as follows: —Award for plant, L 46,670 15s. 6d. ; interest' fob-pay* ments wrongfully withheld, L 78 0; damages for delays, LBSO ; value at schedule rates for plant and materials, L 26,558; value of plant and material landed at the Bluff, L 5,340 ; costs:pf arbitration to be paid bv the Government Til 371 fili 2fL
