[fkom ouk own correspondent. J ♦ — : Dunedin, Saturday. DAMAGES. The Supreme Court occupied all yesterday with a special jury case, M'Bride v. Brogdeu and Co., to recover £1,500 compensation, for injuries sustained by being thrown out of a ballast-truck, on the Moeraki railway/line. THE MAYORAL ELECTION. The election to-day occasioned considerable excite?nent. Reeves had slightly the call in the betting. Reeves polled 842 ; Woodland, 842 ; Walters, 453. A fresh election will have to be held. THE MAYORAL ELECTION. The mayoral nomination is fixed for next Saturday, and the polling for the following Thursday. Mr. Walters will not contest the election. Wellington, Saturday. POLITICAL GOSSIP. The Otago members met at noon yesterday, to consider the Auckland and Canterbury proposals, which will receive the support of twenty members of Otago Province, excluding Taiaroa, Pyke, Manders, and Reynolds, undertaking to vote for separation. Auckland asks to be relieved of her indebtedness in respect to war expenditure ; and if the scheme is carried, it is exceedingly probable that Nelson will be proposed as the seat of a Federal Government.
