Wellington, Friday. PARLIAMENTARY ESOTES. The House of Representatives met at 7.30 last night, and debated until half-past twelve upon Vogel's motion that the Piako sale be not interfered with. He stated the whole history of the sale, reading all the correspondence and telegrams to show that there was noting secret or corrupt about it, and scouting all the Ministry having done anything impreper. He characterised Sir George Grey as being "afflicted with morbid hallucinations, deprecated makingithe question a party one, and left it to the' impartiality of the House. Sir-George Grey followed, and-endeavoured to show this was not an isolated case, the Ministry having acted equally improperly in a number of other cases, and concluded by reiterating his belief that all the correspondence read by Vogel was trash and rubbish. He asked Ministers not to vote, thereby constituting themselves judges in their own case. Mr. Stafford followed, making very severe comments upon the course pursued by Sir George Grey, saying that the so-called improprieties of which he accused Ministers had been done by himself -when Governor in innumerable instances. vHe defended the sale as beneficial and advisable under the circumstances. '
Mr. Stout argued that, the 'was highly illegal, and no lawyer in the? Colony would risk his reputation by saying it was not, and moved an amendment -to the - effect that, "While the House would not prevent the issue.of Crown grants,.it regretted that the exigencies of the Government should demand the selling of large "blocks like that without completion.". Sir Donald M'Lean declined to accept the amendment, and the debate was adjourned, at 12.30. on the motion of Mr. Reader Wood.
