Dunedin, Saturday. 808 ISAAC AS MAYOR, Mr. Isaac intends contesting the Mayoral Chair.

THE COMMISSIONER OF POLICE. The Commissioner of Police has recommended that the banks should escort their own gold, the Government continuing to afford the necessary police protection. By such a course a saving of £I,OOO a-year can be effected. He also recommends that £SOO should "be placed at his disposal to establish a system of revenue police, and brings under the notice of the Government the necessity for soma better legal provision for the prevention of the adulteration of food, and for the recognition of the police in initiating and co.iducting public prosecutions in police courts.
