MUNICIPAL COUNCIL.

The ordinary fortnightly meeting of the above was held last evening at the Council Chambers. Present: His Worship the Mayor, Councillors Headland, Galbraith, Sinclair, Mainland, Morton, and Grave. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. rOURKSPOXI>EX<"-E. From the Corporation solicitors, forwarding an opinion asked for by the Council. From Mr. J. 11. Kvery, applying for permission to remove soil from Urc-street to his property in that street.—Granted, under the supervision of Town Surveyor. From the Provincial Secretiry, stating that a parcel of seeds had been forwarded for the Garden Reserve, and that the Curator of the Botanical Gardens had been instructed to forward some shrubs to the Council.—lt was resolved that the Corporation gardener proceed to Dunedin to assist in shipping the .shrubs from the latter place to Oamaru. From the Colonial Secretary, as follows : " Colonial Secretary's Office, Wellington, I:2th April, 1576. "Sir, —Adverting to your letter of the '2Sth January last, 1 have the honour to inform your Worship that His Excellency the Governor has been pleased to reserve a piece of land in the Town of Oamaru as a right-of-way, in accordance with your recoiest. "T have, &e., " For "the Colonial Secretary, "E. S. Cooper. "His Worship the Mayor, Oamaru."

From Mr. F. J. Spence, requesting the Council to form a road-line in Greta-street, opposite section 15, block LXXlX.—Referred to Public Works Committee.

From Mr. W. Aitken, applying for lease of section 2 block LXXVII ; and also from Mr. D. Dineen, applying to lease section IS, block LXXXV. —Ordered to be sold by auction in the usual way. From the Harbour Board re powder, magazine, and stating that the subject was under the consideration of the Board. From Mr. J. H. Lowe, stating that the railway-crossing at Thames-street Bridge will be pitched at an early date. From Mr. J. E. Clements, referring to certain offensive matter stagnaut on his section, but the Council decided that the communication could not be entertained, owing to the discourteous tone in which it was written. TENDERS. Tenders were considered for the forming, kerbing, and channelling of the east side of Tyue-street, when that of E. Hastings, for £l('S 15s. was accepted. KEPOKTS. The report of the Select Committee was read and adopted ; and that from the Town Engineer was also approved of. LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH. His Worship suggested the desirability of having the Council proclaimed a Xocal Board of Health under the Act. A Select Committee was appointed to report upon the matter at the next meeting of the Council. IRON LAMP POSTS. Designs for iron lamp posts were considered, and it was resolved that the Clerk write to the Dunedin and Oamaru fouudaries, requesting prices of iron lamp posts, with and without lanterns. ACCOUNTS. . A number of accounts were passed for payment, and the Council adjourned at 10.15.
