LIMERICK LIMPS
He Should/Be Given His Freedom LET HIM RETIRE (From "N.Z. Truth's" Christchurch THERE is as much chance of getting ' A m a word about our erstwhile champion, .'Limerick, these days as there is of dodging the dole. Between the names of Phar Lap and Nightmarch there is no room for the old fellow/ "■'..' : . The old battler has not been bustled much since his return from Sydney, but the last week or two. he has had a bit of a run along and appeared to be doing well. . On a recent morning, after showing that there was nothing wrong with him by the manner m ■ which he. sprinted, he was noticed to be sore on pulling up. ; F. D. thought it advisable to let him up for a while, but after a couple of days he was all right again. However, as he had started on his holidayit was just as well to leave him there and consequently he will now have a loaf m the paddock for a few weeks. There is not a horse anywhere more entitled to a spell, but even this might not help him to regain that great brilliancy for which' he was once noted. ■'■'.' Considering the good form shown by all his younger during the past season, it might be just as well to leave him m the paddock: for good arid let him retire with the laurels that he has already won, before the . glory which crowned his early career becomes ..obscured iri the haze that has surrounded his latest attempts.
DAQUITO has felt the strain of his * hard 'races and does hot look as if he will stand galloping on the hard tracks prevalent at Riccarton at present, and he will most likely be treated to a SDell while it is so dry.
