HARBOR HIS HOBBY
A FTER spending most of last year J\ globe-trotting-, inspecting harbor
works wherever he went, P. Joseph McLean, chairman of the Greymouth Harbor Board, has returned with a special report and plans obtained at his personal cost from, no less an authority on harbors than Mr. Gordon! Nicol, harbor engineer at Aberdeen and ccns vlt ant for numerous kindred bodies m Britain. The report and
plans which follow an entirely new idea from those at present being adopted will provide greater depth of water and more room for steamers manoeuvring' than the works already contemplated.
The public spirit of McLean is commendable. He realises the disabilities of the port and as chairman of the board does not hesitate to dive into his pocket to buy the goods he wartts from the man of proved ability.
