A Presentation
(From ',N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) AS a keen supporter of the ganv* Mrs. E. Collins has not been overrepresented m the matter of horseflesh. ■ Still, that did not prevent the Auckland sportswoman from presenting several handsome trophies, and m this connection the Thames Trotting Club have much to be thankful for. Of late Mrs. Collins's only representative was Hohoro, but after that pacer's exhibition at Te Aroha '.'Mrs. E.C." presented him with her compliments to trainer Lander McMahon. Possibly McMahon may get a little with Hohoro, but from "Truth's" way of thinking it may not be a lot. . Nicotine is very poisonous. Even m small quantities pure nicotine causes vomiting, purging and collapse, and when you consider that many imported tobaccos contain from four to five per cent, of this poison the need for caution m making a selection is apparent. Therefore smokers will learn with interest that some of our New Zealand grown varieties contain barely two per cent, of nicotine. Small wonder that they are comparatively harmless. This is largely due to the toasting process to which the leaf is subjected. This process not only" helps to free the leaf of poison but develops flavour and aroma. Smokers are unanimous .m acclaiming the immense superiority of toasted tobacco. There are several brands, ( so that all tastes are catered for. "RJverh'ead Gold" is a beautiful, mild aromatic; "Cavendish" is a delightful medium -flavoured tobacco (the sportsman's smoke) ; "Navy Cut" is a blend of choice leaf, also medium; and "Cut Plug No. 10"' is rich, dark and full-flavoured. These are the only toasted tobaccos, and are manufactured exclusively by the National Tobacco Company, Ltd. (pioneers of the N.Z. tobacco industry).*
