HECTOR LANDS
And Jim Drops In His Tracks (From "N.Z. Truth's" Ashburton Rep.) ;After several years of inactivity, the Ashburton Association staged a j professional fight on Friday last. UECTOR LECKIE (9.0) met and de--11 feated Jim Cotterell (9.2). From start to finish, the la.rge crowd was treated to a good, clean and open exhibition of boxing. j Leckie, the smaller of the two, j was fighting like a tiger m the first ) round, and Cotterell, boxing nicely, used some good footwork. In the second round, Leckie jumped m from the gong, landing lefts, and rights to Cotterell's face. After a brief exchange of m- fighting, both boys stepped back and fought toe to. toe, but towards the end of the round Leckie landed a heavy right to the -side of the head, making Cotterell clinch to recoyer. •Cotterell boxed nicely at long range m th'e third round and worried Leckie with straight lefts to the face. Leckie attacked strongly m the fourth and final round. He connected with" a series of double lefts to the face, and then, ducking cleverly; avoided a two-handed attack ,from Cotterell. .Towar.ds the end of the round, Leckie forced Cotterell on the ropes, both exchanging heavy blows. Cotterell tried to fight his way back, but he met with a, left to the body and a cross to the jaw, dropping for the full count. Leckie is a much improved fighter and is punching hard. He would make a good match for Donovan, both "boys fighting from gong to gong. *'•,'.' '%'.
