IN HAND CANTER
9 ■'- y Winalot Treats Limerick With Contempt LEG GIVINcYtROUBLE (From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Sydney Representative.) The pathetic spectacle was witnessed at Rosehill ori Saturday of* Limerick being downed m the Rawson Stakes.
THE grand old chap was left without a kick over the final two furlongs, after looking the winner rounding the bend. Fredj Jones was .despondent and could not explain the gelding's inglorious effort. • • • Winalot won m a hand canter, and looks like taking all the weight-for-age events this autumn., He is a short-priced favorite for the Sydney Cup, which he won last year. Limerick is again ( giving his trainer trouble. His oft! foreleg was swollen and he trotted very gingerly at Randr wick on- Monda.y morning. He may not be able to run next Saturday m the Warwick Stakes. All the New Zealanders are doing .well, outside Limerick. Catkin Is pleasing the Randwick watch -holders, who have formed a big opinion of the Cup candidate. More will be known of the Catmint gelding after his running at. Warwick Farm at the week-end! Jones's troubles did not come singly on Saturday last. Paquitb was heavily backed m the Parramatta Mile and finished second to Bavacre. With ordinary luck m the running,
Paquito wfould have won by, lengths. He was badly hampered m the straight and gave the winner eight lengths start from the distance. The Thurnham gelding is certain to pay expenses. Greengrocer and Rawhetu ran m the same race and shaped poorly. Raasay is of no account. He ran like a dropsical donkey. He does not look like winning anything above an ordinary suburban handicap. High Disdain will start- at a short price m his first up.. He has been making the watches run hot at Randwick. Another that is doing exceptionally well is Crown Area, which was relieved of his Rosehill engagement.' Agrion, Nedda and Honour all look fit.
Honour is considieried the best two-year-old that has ever left New Zealand. He will need to be to beat Holdfast and Pentheus. Sion is favorite, for the Doncaster, Crowdel being the next best. Winalot is the Cup elect. There was big- backing for Catkin on Monday morning:. Vertigern's legs, have been giving trouble and he had to be eased last week.
