Paganelli Over Eight Furloiig Course
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) Northerners are inclined to be- - lieve that Paganelli will take on the Thompson m preference to the Challenge. TF he does, and. "N.Z. Truth" formed that impression after questioning Trainer Mick Carroll at Franklin, there will be much discussion as to whether or not he is likely to see out a solidly run' mile. The same question has cropped up m the past, and at least two which could be quoted are Aussie, before he won his first King's Plate, and Ventura, before capturing her Ellerslie Easter. Yet both won, and if Mick Carroll does finally decide that Paganelli is to take his place m the Thompson it can be. taken for certain that the Te Rapa trainer has , a fairly settled notion that Pagan'elli will get the distance safely. Paganelli should be somewhere near the best stage of his career, and as "Truth" oasts thoughts back to January 2 at Ellerslie and remembers how he carried 9.11 to victory, giving the speedy Vallar a start, 371b5., and a sound beating over the business end of six. furlongs, it would, seem there must be some hope for Paganelli m the Thompson at 131bs. lighter poundage. Paganelli's impost — 8.12 — is certainly six pounds over weight-for-age, but his undoubted brilliancy should get him somewhere. Anyhow, it is reasonable to suppose that he should be m the picture till the final furlong, if he cannot actually last the distance out,
