WILL APPLETON, one of the most active members of the Wellington Hospital Board, resigned . last week,.' because,, he said, he found his association with civic work acted detrimentally m relation, to his profession. Throughout the ., past six years, it was Appleton's guiding hand which steered,, the somewhat unwieldy rudder pendant to.' the Hospital Board's erratic policy,' and it is unfortunate indeed that he should find it necessary to resign. As he said, little or no encouragement Is offered to young business men. who might be prepared to' offer their services, since their doing so rriight' conceivably mean personal . hardship,: and have a detrimental ■ effect upon their own business. . - , .. His resignation isy< to be regretted, but the increasing .biisirie'ss interests involved m his executive responsibilities m the ChaiiesHaines Advertising Agency will occupy all •• his spare moments.
