Fame Has Spread
THE success of P. D. McNab, caretaker of the Riccarton racecourse, is well-known to the racing public, but his fame has spread beyond the shores of this country, and recently a tempting; offer was received by him from South Africa to continue his occupation m the land of diamonds and good footballers. But Mac. is staying m New Zealand, though to the regret of the racing community m general he is relinquishing his post as starter at the close of the present sea • son and will m future confine his activities to his work on the racecourse at headquarters. Mac. is to the South Island what Charlie O'Connor is to the North, and his work at the barrier at the recent C..J.C. meeting served to further emphasise the blow that his retirement from' the barrier will mean to racing iri Canterbury. With Mac. it was natural skill from the beginning, supported by the ever apparent,, but not offensive, indication that he is "dominant over both riders and horses. '
