In The Shade flies At
The Finish
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) In the Shade has made some bold and brilliant efforts on the racecourse. THE best of these happened along when, -with a dazzling run, he ran from last to first m double quick time m the last Easter Mile at Ellerslie and left the main army of punters lamenting- the fact that his most immediate previous form had not suggested such a worthy deed. In fact, his rqturn to form came so suddenly as to catch his real connections off guard. - Still, it proved that ' In the Shade possessed the pace when he felt inclined to deliver it. At Rotor ua he made such a gallant showing when he chased Branson home m a sprint that he was all tne rage for the Cup at Te Aroha, though after experiencing slight trouble on the journey he could hardly improve his position a great deal. On that showing he receded m public favor for his mile engagement two days later, yet simply bounded into second place after racing patently earlier. Punters that day were picking him out on that display to win the Ohinemuri Cup, but his name does not figure m the list of entries. Therefore, it will be some other day for In the Shade. i He is a bold galloper when m the mood, and punters had better be on the alert from now on and not let him dodge them as -he did m last year's Easter Mile.
