BIG AND FAT

Race Did Not Do Him

Lot of Good

Commendation was produced at Woodville and the public thought him good enough^to win the day. LIE was big- m and when it came to the run home he could not foot it with Royal Duke and Arrow Lad, but he was only a little more than a length behind the winner. The second day most thought he was the best of good things with the race into him. ■•■..■ He was not. In the birdcage he looked cleaned up, but, to many, the tendency to. break out m a sweat behind the saddle did not look promising. He was beaten again, and per- - haps it was no disgrace to go down to the seasoned Ridgemount. His owner was not , downhearted as he made no secret that the gelding had been, saddled .six. weeks and that only a .fortnight of that 1 period was heavy work indulged'in. All going well Commendation is to be a runner m the Napier Cup next week and then he will come on to Trentham to compete m the North Island Challenge Stakes. But before he can be expected to win he will have to shed a lot of that soft stuff he is at present carrying.

BOOKS LOST

AN the first, day at Woodville w "N.Z. Truth's" representative lost hear the lawn fence a leather race card cover and seven race books— -Hawera, Taranaki, Wanganui and Woodville cards. A notice posted on the tote house brought no response. Evidently the person who picked the books up did riot see it. The books are of no value except to their owner*. They are marked m no ordinary fashion and are kept by "Truth" as a record of race meetings. For this reason their return would bo appreciated. Thanks very much!'
