Wants Money CYDNEY Stadiums has been trying to get Bushey Graham to come out from the States and meet Fidel la Barba for the bantam-weight title of the world. Graham is prepared to come, but he asks for £4000 as his end of the purse. This will . probably preclude . any chance of the title being fought m Sydney. . It would take £6000 to run such a contest and to get that money would entail the rising of prices to such a level as to stop most from -attending^
For Easter THE Christchurch Sports Club hopes • to be able to stage a. fight for its patrons during Easter week. At the present time negotiations are m train between Artie Hay and Reg. Trowern. The pair met at Westport at Christmas and Hay was awarded the decision m a close contest. # * * Once Again JIM BROADFOOT and Charlie Pocock, who fought a draw at Te Aroha, will meet again next month. The pair are engaged to step but at Westport on March 23. It will be the fourth meeting of the pair, Broadfoot having the call at the present time with a win. The other two bouts ended m draws. # • • Improving MARK CARROLL made a nasty mess of his hand some weeks back and it prevented his keeping a date with Tommy Donovan. . When seen at Wanganui, Mark said the hand was rapidly improving and he would soon be ready to take on the lesser feathers. # # # Worth Seeing AT Waimate on March 13 Is to be staged an amateur bout that will be worth seeing. Alan Campbell, the . New Zealand heavy champion, Is to try his luck with Alf.' Cleverley, the light-heavy rep. at the last Olympic Games. : Alf. will be giving away something m weight and Vhe will find the south boy has improved since he last saw him at Invercargill. At Melbourne ( |F everything runs to schedule Fidel la Barba will meet Billy Grime at Melbourne on Saturday night. Fidel is. game to take the fight on for he has everything*, to lose and little to gain. Should Grime defeat him it would go hard for la Barba when he returns to *the States as m that quarter Grime is ranked anything but a champion.
