THREE FIGHTS A YEAR
Christchurch Selects Dates For Tourneys
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Christchurch Representative.) The Christchurch Sports Club has definitely emerged from, the shadows of insolvency, and is back on the track heading for financial prosperity.
"THERE were many unfortunate cir--1 cumstances which knocked the fight game m Canterbury, and the support of the public was alienated tc such an extent that it is not easy to win back: Since the revival, however, prudeni management has re-established the game, and if the executive committee uses sufficient discretion m the matches it arranges, boxing will assuredly stage a come-back. The club has announced itself on the side of the amateurs, a decision m keeping with its constitution, but money is required to promote amateur boxing, and this can only be derived from successfully-promoted professional bouts.
The general meeting of members > has recommended to, the managei ment committee that three profes- > sional fights only be staged each > year, and that they be arranged for Cup week, National week and t Autumn Carnival week. j The wisdom of this decision can be , judged from an experience of the club ' during the past season. The best fight of the year — the > Pocock-Broadfoot contest — was held on i an off night, and the club lost £100, i while the other two matches, both m•- • different fights, were more successful, [ the Leckie-Radford fight during Cup ■ week practically wiping off the £ 100 deficiency/
