Compression Loss
A puzzling loss of compression may often be traced to a warped valve. In the absence of a lathe, a good method of ascertaining whether a valve is faulty m this respect or not, is to mark the face with a series of lines made with a blacklead pencil, lower the valve carefully on its seat, and then rotate it for an eighth of a turn If the lines are rubbed off all round the face it is clear that it is bearing correctly at all points on the seating.
