Unusual Noises
THE location of any unusual - noise m the engine is greatly facilitated if the engine is throttled, down and the frequency of the occurrence of the noise is noted. Common engine noises 'generally occur at either crankshaft or camshaft speed and by • noting when the knock occurs with reference to the rotation of either of these shafts, the knock may be more easily classified. Main bearings, crankpins, and wristpins, m every case, produce knocks at crankshaft speed. Knocks at camshaft speed, whic'i is one-half that of the crankshaft are usually due ( to a loose bearing ■ or end play of the shaft itself.
machine, the A.J.W.; has a four cylinder engine of car type and pressed steel frame enclosing the whole of. the engine and transmission. The- trend towards four cylinder machines and water cooling will probably be carried further duriiig- the present year.
