SOME WERE HAPPY
Bat Majority Were Really Upset (From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) The Herries Memorial Cup at Te Aroha proved a knock-out for punters, and let the double merchants out first barrel. TT was a case of the second outsider *• of a field of eight hardly giving the more favored section a look-in once he got to the front — about a mile from home. From then on, the lightly-weighted Mosque, which came fresh from victory over a mile course at Rotorua, hugged the rails out m front, rounded the corners m great style, and, stalled off the ""determined efforts of The Lover' and Royal Doulton m the run home, to win convincingly. Mosque has no great size to appeal strongly, but he has always displayed some staying \ ability m minor engagements. He is owned by Bob Porter, ex-book-maker ' and publican, who has experienced a fail- trot of "ins" since taking on racing horses. Bob has been associated with the victories of Mosaic / and Nancy Lee, and now Mosque threatens to carry on the good work for him. In the Shade hardly ever looked a winner, but met with disappointment at one stage, and it may not be safe to condemn him entirely.
