Time-savers Worth Noting Here are a few helpful, hints tftat will make all the difference to the careful housekeeper. TO keep drains, etc., fresh and wholesome, dissojve, ioz. permanganate of potash m 3oz. of boiling water, and i pour this down at least once ■, weekly. To test drains, pour a mixture of hot water and peppermint oil down the upper part of the drain, and if the joints are faulty, an unpleasant odor will become noticeable at once. When curtain rings become black and ugly by exposure to smoke or / dust, boil them for a few minutes m half a cupful of water and the same quantity of vinegar. Take them out, rinse m cold water, dry well and polish with a soft duster. If the bath, shows' dirty yellow y v. marks and stains, remove these . by rubbing them hard with a cloth , dipped' m spirits, of salts. Have * the.; bath taps tm-ned full on so as to wash away the chemical. Gilt frames should first be dusted and then brushed with a camel-hair-brush dipped m 1 pint of cold water, Z. to which has been added .1 gill of il vinegai*. Squeeze- the brush half dry 2 - and work up and down the frame a '*• small piece: at a. time, until the gilding J. looks bright and clean.
