Hints For Use In Boudoirs
More and more attention is. being, paid by women to the smaller details of skin and hair treatment. The scalp has previously -. been , rather neglected, but now sets m a period when it will receive its . due. Herewith. are some suggest- ■ ions for keeping it healthy and clean and m good general con- . dition. ... 'TTHE frailties of the human scalp are ■*■ legion, and mere washing will not solve the problem of keeping it at its best. It is less understood than almost any other phase of feminine beauty. All the shampooing m the world will not restore color to the natural blonde's hair or bring back, its lost gleam. In fact, the shampooing may be definitely bad for her hair if it is too dry. On the other hand it may be too oily, and may give it a drying treatment, when what it needs paradoxically is more application of oil. Before a scalp illness can be cured it must naturally be understood, and m this case a specialist should be consulted. Treatments may require many strange ingredients, and even the use of electricity, but there is one treatment that is good for every ill of the scalp, and that is massage. .When washing your hair, rub the scalp well with the fingers, with an upward action, and this will induce m the scalp the flexible condition that is the sign of normal health. Also, don't neglect the brush for the comb only. Any and every kind of hairdressing requires the brush as well as the comb. To touch on another subject: It is a mistake ' to suppose that bath salts have only one use, that of making the skin smell pleasant. Bath salts are softening to the skin and get rid of callouses and permanent gooseflesh. :
Bath powder is better than the bath crystals, as it can also be applied m a paste and. then washed off. Essence of pine-needles, which is put up by many different firms of parfumieres, is exhilarating to the skin and gives it new life and smoothness; as well as being quite a sure cure for colds and "stuffy" 'heads. It will take pains from the limbs after a hard day's .work or play, and tone up the system. 1 Baths are a relaxation and a pleasure, as well as a duty, and can be made more pleasant by such things as salts, .and good superfatted soap. Never use. any other but good soap m the bath, for it is not worth the little economy to have your skin made dry or scaly by poor soap. • If the skin of the face and neck is oily pat eau de cologne on the parts with a soft handkerchief and leave it to dry/ It will dry almost at once and leaves.- the skin smooth and pleasant, as it acts as an astringent and also prepares the skin to receive the powder. If your skin has a tendency to be greasy do not use a vanishing cream, but a lotion, which will dry quickly on the skin. This is especially advisable m the summer-time, when the pores of the face a.nd neck become clogged with .cream very easily.
