Ena Stockley 's Effort (From "N.Z. Truth's" Swimming Correspondent.) When Ena Stockley won the 100 yards national backstroke championship at Wellington, few really realised the true import of her achievement. CNA covered the distance m time *-" which was equal to a shade over the existing world's record "for the hundred metres. Cameron, Stokes, Bridson and Kathleen Miller were lauded to the skies In turn, but none of them- put up a performance to equal that of the Auckland girl. At no stage was she pressed, and without doubt the Olympic representative could have bettered her time by a couple of seeon d,s. Miss Stockley proved beyond all shadow of conjecture that 'had she been given a fair show at the Games, New Zealand's name would have appeared on the records. Hers was a brilliant swim and it led thoughtful fans . to hope that the champion would be m as good, if not better, form when the next Olympic Games come round.
