NOT THIS TIME
Gets Bricks Instead of Bouquets
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) In the past, it gave "N.Z. Truth" pleasure to eulogise Jockey A. McGregor for his fearlessness. THERE was the incident' in the Camp- ■*• bell Hurdles at Ellerslie when he remounted Glencanny, after falling twice during the. race, and finally landing the horse home m second money. Also there was the day when he took on rushing Mashoor to victory through, the howling mob at the Ellerslie fixture early m October. Yet "Truth" can hardly credit him with riding a heady race 'on Owairaka m the opening High Weight at Rotorua. "In the fh'st .place it did not seem sound business to rush the topweight off his feet m the early part, and then, when he hit the front on the rails, to lose his position to such an extent that, when Owairaka got his second breath, he^had to come out among the middle of the field. • Owairaka certainly, had it m him that particular day to win provided he had been handled more expertly. As it was, there was still some dash left m the gelding m the run home, but fourth only was his placing. The punters who laid odds-on on the chestnut were just as wrath over his handling as one of the connections of the horse appeared to be. However, Owairaka should make amends, though a great opportunity was certainly missed last Saturday.
