Sweet Warbler
BARNES isn't a name one would straight away associate with Beethoven, even m a- minor way; which brings us once again within the widely swung proverbial gates of— "What's m a name?" The name of L. Barnes is known throughout New Zealand musical circles. Yes, and even so far as London and the United States, when Barnes, some years ago, was on an extended tour which linked him up with many distinguished overseas musical artists. Though at present m Duneoin, where he is m charge of the R.B.C.'s 4YA station. Barnes calls Wellington "home." • ■ ■ ■■ ' L.B.s sojourn m the southern city serves to jog the memory of this selfsame warbler's appearance m operatic solos of "The Golden Legend" during the Dunodin Exhibition, when he was called upon to learn extremely difficult solos at throe days' notice.
