TWO TO GO
Defects In Cantab Cricket (From' "N.Z. Truth's" Christchurch Rep.) . Canterbury has two more repre- . sentative cricket matches to play this season, one of them a Plunket Shield match. , CINCE Canterbury's hopes of winning the Plunket Shield are banished, both matches present an excellent opportunity for the trying out of young material. On later form it .is : almost imperative that . places- should be found m the Canterbury side for Allen and Cox:, both of Riccarton. . Both are youngsters, and Allen especially, has shown all-round form that entitles him to an opportunity to display his worth as a representative. He keeps wickets for Riccarton, and m addition to doing this job well, he is a solid, forceful batsman, quite capable of opening an innings. , With very few exceptions, Cox , has hit up big figures this -season, and is more entitled to. a place m the team than some of those who have already been tried and failed. In all ; shield games the batsmen, regarded as the best m the province, have been consistently sound on the leg side and before the wicket, but anyone choosing to bowl" to them: on the off had invariably reaped a harvest.
