VERY FEW
Classy Horses In
The North
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Kep.) There is a dearth of decent competitors m Auckland and the really good ones could be counted on the prongs of a toasting fork. YWITH the classes made tighter the locals are either ineligible to compete, or, under the conditions, are outclassed. With the Otahuhu Trotting Club re--vising their summer schedule and extending some of the limits a few more of the Auckland brigade will have a chance to chase the nobbly nuggets. Still, such pacers and trotters as we have here are generally outclassed by the visiting element, and only at the smalls m the country do they get _i bit. For this reason meetings m the smaller places outside of the Queen City are popular with the rank and file. Both the Waikato and Thames Clubs have goi m early and produced their programmes for the March meetings. Given a chance to peruse the bill of fare a couple of months before the business eventuates suits mentors admirably. On that score work at headquarters is due to be kicked along, and the enterprising country clubs should get tlieir measure of support.
