DISTANCE SHOULD SUIT

Mile and A Furlong Hack Event At Takapuna

(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Auckland Eepresentative)

If Tidal could be relied upon to unload himself of the brilliant form displayed at the Dargaviile meeting- held at Avondale m the spring 1 , he would certainly give a race like the Hauraki Hack mile and a furlong at Takapuna a decent shake.

TJOWEVER, he may not be the same JlI horse as he was, for he was under a cloud a.fter Dargaviile a?id probably indulged m too much racing at Ellerslie to be expected to be right back to his best yet awhile. Then again it is open to question whether a turning track wi|l suit him. Punters will probably look further down the list, and if Qlenstar is reserved he is one which should be suited by the distance and the strong horseman which his weight commands. Star Comet was good last season m the welter class, while A'rikitoa has more than a rough show. •

War Officer is the goods, but races patchily, while Whaka King's form has not been up to his best of former days.. Loveband is the ex-Hawkes Bay hack of some little promise. Brariipton threw out signals m the spring that this class would not be too much for him. Salamander may be a possibility only, while if it chanced to be soft Arch Queen would be suited. As for Exalted and Mon Star, that pair have done nothing to suggest spirited support. • If reserved, there would be sound reasoning m expecting . the judge to have to decide m favor of Glen star. !
