Dud "Batteries"

FAILURE of a battery to develop its full voltage across the starter or lamps may be found to be due to corroded terminals or cable ends.

This is a trouble which is likely to develop if the terminals are not screwed down tightly, and it is, moreover, at these points that sparking "may occur. If this trouble is suspected the cable ends should be removed and the terminals cleaned with emery paper, or dipped m a solution of washing soda. -, The terminals should be screwed down tightly, and vaseline smeared over them.

This will prevent acid from further corroding the terminals and cable ends, but the vaseline should not be smeared oh the actual contact surfaces or it will set up resistance.
