RICCARTON TATTLE
Trentham Candidates Are Well Forward
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Special Christchurbh Representative). Riccarton stables, are well represented m the nominations for h, and it is probable that a big ;he. handicaps will go north.
.the Trentham meeting this mont majority of those appearing m 1 SUDDEN STORM, though not able to boast the achievements of her fullsister, Childsplay, is coming quickly to hand, and m a track gallop with the latter recently finished practically on terms over six furlongs. Childsplay is thriving on a lot of fast work, and will be better suited by the smaller field m the Stakes than she was m the big herd which contested the Stewards. . She is a filly that will not st.and too much knocking about, and her second to Silvermihe was an. impressive performarice: quite m keeping with the promise she gave as a two-year-old. Recent racing has brought Phillipic into racing trim and he looks better how than at any stage of his career. First Sight has thrown off the soreness which prevented him from showing his best m the Manawatu Cup, and he is almost sure to take his place m the Wellington Cup field.. Rapier has had a fairly easy time since the Cup meeting. He will be raced m the sprint event on the second day at Trentham, and m the City Handicap on the final day. On his present appearance it would seem that he requires the two races at Trentham to bring him up to racing trim. ,'-.:■ Prickles has shown sighs of staying, but was not attended with much luck m her early engagements this season, being continually the victim of interference. . '; • With the exception of Haze, all of Percy Mason's team are going along nicely and the Greenwood stable should be strongly represented. Though they failed to get on the winning list at Auckland there is little wrong with the condition of Jack McCombe's team, and if Crown Area strikes a more favorable track at Trentham than he did at Ellerslie, he will give further evidence of his class. Gay Sonnet ran without success after Oamaru, but she was well up m the weights and seemed to be feeling the stress of her heavy programme. Though she is a genuine little mare, arid will appreciate the drop m weight to 7.12, the class.in the Telegraph Handicap looks a little beyond her capacity. Beau Geste's failure at the - Waikouaiti meeting was entirely due to the going, and there is not a fitter-looking horse at Riccarton. He must be. given a chance m the Wellington Cup when a line is taken
through his New Zealand Cup performance. George Aynsley's team continue to do weli, and will probably have 'thenfirst outing this year at Wingatui. The three-year-old Chide, which was showing promise when he went out of commission at New Zealand Cup time, is quickly returning to form, while Starshooter and Paperchase have been doing very satisfactoy work on the tracks.
