That the Takapuna Plate for hacks on the spring programme has become popular was doubly proved when the T.J.C. decided to place a similar class of event on its January programmes. TT is known as the Wynyard Plate, A taking - its name from the late secretary, Bob Wynyard,' who' first became associated with the, North Shore racing heads away . back m the last century. The first of the Wynyard; Plate contests is billed for the second day of the coming Cup meeting, and the list of likely competitors ' will be m keeping so far as numbers * go, with previous Plates across the Waitemata harbor. It is, set apart expressly for. hacks which have not won the £500 m first . money at time of. starting and is a special -weight affair m favor of a good three- » year-old. • The race carries £600 and a gold 'cup, and therefore ranks second m value to the rich £700 Douro Cup at Trentham so far as Dominion hack events are concerned. Engaged m the first Wynyard Plate are two m Gold Money and Lido, which ran into the minor money m the Queen's Plate mile at Ellerslie. v They are both three-year-olds and the form mentioned will encourage punters to lend patient thought to their prospects towards the end of the month. The Begum •is yet another three-year-old m the list which leaves the tapes smartly, 1 and the prospects at present are. that the older' section will need to be the goods if they are to stall off those of junior years for the first of the Wynyard Plates. •'.. The older horses remaining m at present include Subdivision, which won a double at Thames, ihcluding : the topping- off of High Finance man open sprint. Subdivision's strong claim will be his beginning powers* on the turning track, . though he is no great stayer. "..'. Lei trim, Air King, Arikitoa and Micrometer are other fair, class hacks engaged at their best, Air King being one which begins fairly smartly and is most suited when the track is firm.
