AT TAURANGA
Hamilton Rowers Do Well [■ . (From "N.Z. Truth's" Tauranga Rep.) Rain and choppy water combined to mar the Tauranga regatta, at which m addition to local clubs Auckland and Waikato were strongly represented. LJAMILiTON crews Avon the most prize-money, with Tauranga nextl The senior fours, two miles, pi-ovided a good race. Four crews competed, Hamilton winning by a length from Tauranga, Ayith Waitemata tnird, .. and St. George's unplaced. G. St. Clair stroked the winning crew and he had with him B. Sanders (3), W. Bayiey (2), and E. Waters (bow). The winners rowed well, and will be heard of m more important regattas later on. " . : Hamilton also won the youths' fours, beating four other crews comfortably. The maiden pair-oar event also went to Hamilton. The single sculls handicap (open) was won very easily by W. Turner, a promising young Tauranga. sculler. He had eight seconds start from W. Stevenson and "Jerry" St. Clair. The latter appears to have slipped badly, and could not get near the placed men. r Stevenson sculled very well, but had no chance of conceding such a start to Turner, who beat the ex-champion .by five lengths. . ; On the form shown Turner would have given Stevenson a good go off the mark. Turner is the making of a fine sculler, and is likely to be heard of m important events.
