RUNNING AT BRIGHTON
Seaside Form Should Be Worth Following During Holidays
' . (By "The Toff"). There was some excellent trotting 1 during the two days of the New Brighton meeting and some of those which ran well may be worth while following during the holidays.
A RELIABLE four-year-old gelding *•* m Dilnon by Author Dillon won the Innovation Handicap. He got to the front before half a mile was accomplished m 1.11 and was still m possession at the mile m 2.19 3/5, with Great Abdallah, Locanda Lv and Sonoma Child making him do it. They all had a shot to head him, but none was equal tp the job. . : Entering the straight Sonoma Child made a big effort to reach Dilnon, but m so doing he went to a break, leaving Dilnon to win m good style. ]■ ■■ Even had he kept his feet Sonoma Child never looked like heading Dilnon, which came home his last four furlongs m 1.7. 4/5. Dilnon was nicely handled by his trainer, W. Warren. Though Molly Molloy stayed on much better than m any of her previous efforts she had to follow All Peters home m the Shirley Handicap. All Peters is a much in-bred trotter his sire, Petereta, being the sire of All Peters darh also. All Peters is not only a fast trotter, but a good stayer that will improve with age. Oval again showed that two miles is a wee bit too far for him, but he Is likely to reach that distance m the autumn perhaps. Turning for home Lady Fan was unwinding a promising run which she spoilt a little farther on by making a bad break. ; .. , St. Peti'ox. went; a good race and is on the way to winning a stake. In a battling- finish Becky Mine beat Avonwood by a neck m the Sumner Handicap, with Audrey Dillon tiring a head away m third place. • . ■- Avonwood finished well and got to within a neck of Becky Mine. Down the straight Baron Bingen put m some good work, but fourth was the nearest he could gret to the mohey. Though Arrah Chief c^me with a mighty ru/i over the last two furlongs, j ' .' ■-.■'-.".■'•
he failed to reach Milo Minto'by half a length. . t Direct Tod led for seven furlongs, being closely followed up to that stage by Lord Bingqn and Milo Minto, with Arran Chief putting m good work. . From seventh position at the mile and a-half peg Sarsaparilla mowed down the opposition m the race to the judge, and" won going 1 * away by two lengths. In spite of three breaks Marvin Junr. retained the lead from fall of the flag to within a furlong of home, where he crumpled up. i * There Young Carbine, which had been m second place 1 from the start assumed the lead, but m the tussle with Randolph, Wild Hebe and Sarsaparilla, Young Carbine became unbalanced, but -got to ths post m time to secure third money. Randolph secured second honors after making a break four furlongs from the finish. ./, ■ • ' The Bench Handicap provided a nerve tingling finish between Sahib and ; Granite •■ City. Over the last hundred yards both pacers were under a stiff drive. In the battle, Granite City succeeded m beating Sahib by half a : head. ; Warepa and Firpo were with the leaders half a mile from home. Firpo was beaten at the top of the lane, where Duridas Boy put m his claim. . Firelight was fifth with a mile to go. He got a run on the inside of the field down the straight and finishing strongly he secured third prize. Yes! It was the Farewell Handicap so far as Loburn was concerned, for after waiting on the leaders for half a mile run. m 1.6 3/5, he.camehome singv ing rag-time with five lengths to' spare.
