A Real Pioneer
ANE of the foundation committee of ' the Wellington Pioneer Club is Miss Amy Kane—and that means that she has been associated with the very earliest women's club movements m this Dominion, for with the sole exception of th'e little Ranfurly Club, the Pioneer, which started its career nearly twenty. ye"ai\s ago, was the first New Zealand club for women. For six years, Miss Kane, who was originally honorary secretary of the Club; has , reigned supreme as president, and has brought to her work an able, forceful personality, full of vigor, and leavened with the wide experience which her trips abroad have given her. In 1025, Miss Kane was also president of the New Zealand National Council of Women, and was lender of the little ■ delegation of New Zealand women Which attended the quinquennial meeting of the world's executive of that body m Washington. Another interesting occasion was that of a garden. party given m honor of Dame Millicent Fawcett, president of the National Union Societies for Equal Citizenship. This lady has been honored by the King for her work In a cause which once seemed a forlorn hope, indeed, and m thelovelyemeraldgreen gardens which stretch near to London, all the old, stagers of the "votes for women" movement gathered to ■wish her well. ' r Memories such as these help Miss Kane.to carry t on with her work at the Pioneer Club. She is also one of Wellington's leading women journalists, and a very well-known figure m the city's, social and.da.ny.. life.
