Student Days
THE -Women Students' Hostel movement celebrated their twenty-first birthday . with much eclat at their Terracehonie last week. Mrs. Wallis, who is mother to the whole scheme, was back from England to say "Hello" to h^r old friends, and fellow-workers, and made-an apt little speech describing the conditions under which student princesses lived m days of yore — with spirit stoves standing on their dressing-tables, no bathrooms, sausages festooned, around the mirror, and sundry other forms of inconvenience. The two Wellington hostels are today fine places as regards homeliness^ and' comfort, and the students manage to work m plenty of gaiety. Another prime mover, who was mentioned with affection at the party,-was Miss Mary Maclean,' late h'ea-d mistress of the Wellington .Girls' College, who landed an 0.8.8. at the last birthday decorations.
