THOSE NOISES
Cause of "Spotting" And Nerves
As m Wellington, the people of London are beginning to kick against the annoyance of street noises. CCIENTISTS and publicists alike have been pointing out that noise means waste of energy, and one, Professor Henry J. Spooner, has estimated that the aggregate economic loss to this country due to the impairment of working capacity by noise is more than a million sterling a week. Nerve strain induced m this way leads to .sleeplessness, excessive irritability, steady, depreciation of reserve strength, and eventually to complete collapse. An abnormal craving for stimulants to restore' waning energy is another logical result of this disease condition. Thus, noise is a cause of drunkenness. It certainly seems time that this country should set up Noise Abatement Leagues to tackle the problem.
