Campers' Cigarette Bulls Bush fires cause a lot of damage during the summer months, and tourists, and campers should take care that they do not contribute to the danger. J7IRIDS should be lit m a cleared space, free from grass and undergrowth, and should not be left to smoulder when they have served their- purpose. A billy of water or a shovelful of earth will, generally smother the ashes. Cigarette butts and matches are, other menaces. They • should always be crushed out and' not thrown Indiscriminately into shrubbery or grass. Your pipe, too, contributes its share of trouble if you knock it out carelessly 'and leave the charred tobacco to smoulder m the grass. Many ' motorists have the habit of throwing away cigiu-ette butts while travelling. ■ • ; A good plan is to keep a receptacle, suclj as an old tobacco tin, iq the car, and put the butts m this. ' -Remember, "A butt m the hand is worth two m the bush," but. have a tin with a. lid on it, or your upholstery may be charred.
