MAXEGIN. began fast and was beauiVA tifully placed behind the leader, Duke Bingen, when he made a bad break entering 1 the straight the first time. He eventually got going again and still hold a chance when he left his feet again at the five-furlong disc. He trotted solidly from there on to get third money, but his early mistakes cost him a royai chance . of winning. He is troubled with a - bad splint. Duke Bingen led for a mile and seven furlongs, but Elzear always had it on him and beat him pointless. On the last day Maxegin began fast but made a bad break at the end of a furlong. Ben. Jarden got him down m time to retain the lead, and going the remainder of the journey without a mistake he won the Middleton Handicap m good style. Kenipton again failed to stay, and Sister Beatrice though heavily backed, failed to reach the money. She was close to the winner two furlongs from home, but got the stitch m the straight.
