NOT TOO FAR
Starters Should Consider (From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.) It was generally believed a few months back that the unruly Golden Wedding, by her misbehavior, at starting barriers, had forced herself on the "schooling" list. ■ ■:•;■■/ . •■■' ■'-'' v■'OOWEVER, such proved to. be in- *^ correct, and. as a rebuff to the "alleged" insinuation the daughter of Kenilworth came back to the fold and acted the part of a really sensible lady for a time— but only for. a time. . She got right back to her cranky habits on the final day of the Dargayille fixture at Avondale. From . the "ace" position m a field of nine m the Flnlayson Mile, her fractioiisness plainly upset the ' whole field, not only by the delay caused, but also by her bumping| tactics when the' signal was given to move off. ' In truth, it was annoying to the connections of the other starters to note the latitude given Golden Wedding. , ■; It is known that Starter O'Connor is . patience, itself m his ambition .to give,. everybody a fair go, but owners up north are beginning to. voice diSr approval over too much patience being 1 displayed with unruly horses, • They ask whether it is a!, fair thing to other horses' to be running the risk of harm coming their 'way by the doings, of "cranky." > brutes. It was certainly not a fair thing to allow Golden Wedding to retain number one position, at Avondale as she did: .. -. : ■ .'•:.■ .> ■,' ■ ■•■ ■ - •.■;:', The proper course to adopt jwas either to have ordered her to the" extreme outside or let her take her chancts behind the field. ', . Unless some such. hard and fast method is adopted, with fractious horses m future, then owners are , rightly entitled to club together and demand a change. . . '. The ,main army of owners, trainers, arid enthusiasts know, fully ; well that it is O'Connor's ambition to give one and all; a fair 'deal, but by paying too much attention 'to cranks such as Golden Wedding he is not acting m accord with the wishes' of the majority. ; . : "' Little consideration should be shown any fractious horse which is liable' to upset the , remainder. :. •'•.:
