' '■ ' ' LJODGE has been battling along with n Serang, Nassock and Erriroy all the winter m the hope that they would make, some return for their upkeep. They have certainly given some encouragement, more especially Serang. He had. been showing up m sprints, a third and second m two starts at Whangarei, but it was not until the final event of the gathering that he succeeded. It was a : mile bout, arid Serang relished the extra distance. , . The class was not top-hole, but the victory would give fresh hope to Owner Impey. who is no great punter and who, racing for racing sake, will last longer than the punter. They have some young ones coming along nicely m the stable. Hodge knows enough about the game to get the best out of them.
