STANDARDIZED
Control Location On Home Cars Recommendations have been made by the Standards Department of the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders of Britain which will have the effect of standardizing the gear change and the position of the brake lever, and clutch, brake and accelerator pedaL THE recommendations will be adopt--1 ed for all British .cars, and the result will be that drivers will be able to change' from one car to another, and will always iknow exactly what they are doing without having to stop to think. The only strange part about the change is that such a step was not taken years ago, for there seems no reason whatever why on one car top gear is forward and tp v the right, and that on another car the same position gives low 'gear or reverse. It is of interest also to note that the standardized gear movement for central control is that adopted m America, so that eventually there .'is no doubt it will become universal. The position adopted for the accelerator pedal is on the right of the brake pedal. Undoubtedly,, this is the correct position, but many cars have that important unit between the brake and clutch pedals, where it is always m danger of being touched accidentally m ah emergency. Many accidents have been caused this way. W7HEN using a home battery charger " it is well to mark positive clip with red paint or file an X on flat surface. When disconnecting, always throw off switch before, removing ter-' minals, as a spark may ignite the gases and scatter acid.
