RAPIER AGAIN
Saturday's Stead Gold Cup
Unless a miracle happens there is not going to.be a wonderful race
for the Stead Gold Cup. "TAKING them by ! and large they are poor, there being only two outstanding horses. Rapier and Laughing Prince. "• ' •:
The running of Rapier m the Canterbury Cup on Wednesday will have a lot to do with the betting.
At the time- of writing ■ there is no reason to look for defeat m this race.
Saturday, however, may be a little different, but this is improbable. Seeing that Rapier beat Laughing Prince at Trentham, many will want to say that he can do it again. A true, run ten furlongs is more to the liking of th'e Fordell -horse, but it is just a gamble as to how the pace will be. • ••■■.,■■' Commendation was to be a runner, but now he will be absent. He had done well since going to Riccarton, though his owner held out little hope for his success. On Tuesday, after -working, he developed tendon trouble — and that meant the.did so far as he was concerned. Coming m on the weight-for-age scale cannot be m the favor of Hoylake and he should go under to Rapier on New. Zealand Cup running. When it arrives time to help the tote along it will most likely be found that the money is for Rapier.
