AMONG the self-pmade men of Christchurch, none can boast a more

'Successful career than Charles Samuel McCully. When he commenced his romantic career, the sign "C. S. McGully, carpenter and builder," meant little more than a canvas, kit and a set of tools. To-day the joinery and timber business trading under the same name, the result of the labor of the principal, extends throughout the province, giving employment to a large number ,of artisans. .

Having conceived the" idea arid prepared the plans, the new stand at Lancaster Pa'rkj one of. the cheapest jobs of its kind m the country, will be an: "everlasting monument to a man who served his province well as a live member of its commercial and sporting- community. Charlie has always taken a keen in-tei-est m local politics, while he has gone one better now by throwing down the gauntlet to Ted Howard, M.P., of Christchurch South fame.
