Wanganui Whispers
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Wanganui Rep.) OTAR AREA is none the worse for his race at Waverley. He may do the Levin and Otaki meetings prior to racing at Feilding. He will improve with another race or two, and should not.be long m winning. ** ' # White Ringlet went a good race at Waverley, but found, Denier and Silver Rule too good: ' ■ . v# * * Denier appears likely to prove better than ever this season. He won m fine style on Labor Day, and it will take a good one to beat him in 1 the Linwood. Handicap at Riccarton. * ■ * * Silver Rule is m the Linwood Handicap next Saturday, and she will be meeting Denier on 71bs. better terms with an extra furlong to go. The better of this pair will have something to say m the finish. * « # Not being engaged on the first day at Riccarton, Reremoana, Partaga and Benzora did not go south until Wednesday. With three such good ones Hawera will be well represented. * # * The three-year-old filly, Calamine, is to be a runner m the Apprentices' Handicap at Riccarton.' She is one of the Bisogne ' tribe, and showed fair promise at Waverley. * * * Silvermine was beaten into third place m the open sprint at Waverley, but though he will have a much better lot to meet on Saturday he cannot be left out of calculations, as he will have 131bs. less to carry, which will make a big difference to a little fellow. ■#••#• # F. Besley, one of the stewards of the Waverley Club and a weli-known racing enthusiast, was a very pleased man after the Labor Duy meeting. He was instrumental m having the admission charges reduced, and the large attendance and success of the meeting proved it was a wise move. Ti;e "gate" showed an increase of £125 on the .previous year. ' .*■'#' * It is understood that the Waverley Club intend to see that patrons are m future provided with better facilities for making their ■ investments on the totJilisator. The need for this was driven home- on Labor Day. * * # If Dick Johnson does not win some good hurclie races with Horomea it will be surprising. She jumps feist and cleanly, and there is ho doubt as to her pace on the flat or her gamenass. »* # ' Followers of the Fovdell stable expect to see Cashier win a race or two at Riccarton, Avhile Mandane 'will probabiy show' that the racing at Trcntham lias improved her. ** . * It is any odds on Laughing Prince shaping better than he did at Trentham, and Consent should also do good service for F. Tilley at Riccarton. * * * It is anticipated that Glenross and Avro will be seen m action at the Otaki and Feuding meetings. Avro is not proving so good as expected, judged on his Waverley form, but he can gallop when m the humor. ■ # # * W. Rayner will have , a fair-sized team at Foilding. Mask will probably ■ not race again until the Auckland .summer meeting, as he. is to be got ready for the Gup, but Lysander, Ceremony, 1 Pedestal and Alloy will most likely be ! seen out at Feilding. ; # ■ . . * # . Alloy does not seem to be making much progress, and it will be autumn before he is seen at his best. Ceremony should be m good form by the [ end of November, but Pedestal, though coming on nicely, will need some racing ■ to tune him up properly. ■ # * ■••■#■ • Lysander is threatening to "come back," and if he does show his old galloping ability he will\soon jump up m the weights. ; .#■.>■#■.•■# Episode appears to be throwing off the soreness which came against her at Auckland. It will probably be the , autumn- — as was the case last year— before she is at her best.
