Bright Prospects For Potoanui ,
(From "N.Z. Truth's" Auckland Rep.)
Time was when Potoanui was ! ridden out m front and was regarded more as a possibility, over ! short hurdle courses than over a I distance of ground. I i OINCE going Into Bert Rae's hands at Ellerslie, however, there is every prospect of the son of Potoa develop-! ing into a stayer; if it is possible, Raei will do it. This mentor's tactics are mainly based on patience with a jumper; if any proof is needed, one has only to refer to the career of the well-aged Glenotus, which is still working at Ellerslie. The majority of : Rae's jumpers have been broken to harness and indulged m shaft work to harden them up and probably relieve the monotony of track work. These tactics have proved effective. Regarding Potoanui, it was pleasing to observe his determination to head off Siaosi at the close of the mile , and three-quarter hurdle event last week-end. That finishing effort augurs well for his future prospects over big country. As a matter of fact, when schooled over the Ellerslie steeplechase course, Potoanui has given great promise of | making good as a 'chaser. '
